There’s a market where competition is at the absolute minimum – the area close to where you live. The main benefits are cost savings and the ability to talk to local people in ways that they will relate to.
There are several cheap ways to target local markets, both online and in traditional media.
1. Pay Per Click
Google AdWords lets you target specific areas and cities.
So imagine you live in Boston, St Patricks Day is coming up, and you want to promote First Date Magic, it would be smart to take an approach like this with your PPC campaign:
a) Select Boston as the area you want your ads to be shown for searches on your keywords.

2. Flyers and posters
Many local communities have notice boards and flyers that are left in cafes and put in letterboxes. Ads in them are very cheap – $10 – $20.
People read them too, and response rates are very high, especially if you say you’re a local like them.
You can take the same approach with flysheets, posters that you can stick up on walls – just don’t break your local by-laws. You don’t want to pick up a fine.
3. Personal columns
Most newspapers have a Personal Ads section where people advertise that they are single and looking for love. See if you can get a small display ad in this section, and use your nice, short AdWords copy – these lonely people are perfect candidates for First Date Magic.
